There's no need to let your domain name (that's your "dot com" address) expire once you've decided to retire from modeling or you close a membership site!  Even if you don't plan on resuming your career and you don't expect to start another business that would benefit from being affiliated with your name, there are several reasons to continue renewing a domain that's based on your name.

For several years we've owned and operated the ModelsCentral web site, a directory of the sites of online models.  Occasionally we go through the directory and remove any "dead" links.  We're always amazed at how many models (some very famous) have allowed their personalized domain names to just expire once they've retired from the business (or, at least, decided to close a web site).  Usually, some "domain entrepreneur" jumps in and grabs the rights to the domain name once it expires, points it to a new place on the web - and they pocket the profits from the traffic that's still being sent to the model's old domain!

Often the "retired" model isn't at all happy to discover that her name is now being used to promote a site that she would rather not be associated with.  And all because she didn't renew her domain name registration - something that costs less than $10 a year.
